The widget builder
The Widget Builder is where you decide what your visitors are asked. A flow is a chain of steps: each one asks something, and the answers determine both the next step and the final price.
Start from the job, not the form
Section titled “Start from the job, not the form”The flows that convert well are the ones that mirror a first phone call. Before you open the builder, write down the three or four things you genuinely need to know before you could quote a number. That list is your flow.
Flows that ask twelve questions get abandoned around question five. If you find yourself adding a question whose answer would not change the price or the way you follow up, cut it.
Adding steps
Section titled “Adding steps”Each step in the builder has:
- A question — the text the visitor reads.
- A type — see Question types.
- Options, for the choice types.
- Optional help text, for anything ambiguous.
Steps run in order unless you branch.
Branching
Section titled “Branching”You can send visitors down different paths based on an answer. A flow for a cleaning company might ask “House or office?” and then ask about bedrooms in one branch and desks in the other.
Branch when the follow-up question would be nonsense on the other path. Don’t branch to hide a question that is merely optional — that is what leaving it un-required is for.
Previewing
Section titled “Previewing”The builder has a live preview so you can walk the flow as a visitor would, including the branches. Use it after every structural change; it is much faster than publishing and reloading your own site.
The preview also shows the running price, which makes it the quickest way to sanity-check pricing rules — change an answer, watch the number move.
